Kia Sorento Engine On Back Order? You Have Rights.

In our last post, we reiterated that when your vehicle is out of service for an extended period of time because a part is on back order, you may have rights to compensation or even a complete repurchase under State Lemon Laws and Federal Warranty Statutes. Last time, we discussed issues with Jeep parts on back order.  This past month, we have seen a surge in Kia Sorento engine cases,  where the part is on back order for weeks or even months at a time.  And as in other situations, the Kia dealers have no estimated time of arrival for the part.  Sadly. it is a case of more demand than supply.

If you are waiting patiently, or impatiently, for your Kia Sorento engine to be replaced, we suggest you bide your time.  It is our hope that the Kia dealer is providing you a loaner.  If over 30 days pass and you still do not have your car back, you may want to reach out to a Lemon Law lawyer to discuss your rights.  If it’s a newer vehicle and falls within the Lemon Law parameters, you could be looking at a new car or complete repurchase.  It it’s an older vehicle but still under a Kia manufacturers warranty, you could be looking at significant monetary compensation to reflect the diminished value of the car as a result of the Kia Sorento engine problem, especially if you experienced prior issues  with the car.

The most important thing is once the Kia is ready to be picked up and the Kia Sorento engine has been replaced, make sure you receive a comprehensive repair invoice which outlines mileage in, mileage out and the complete days out of service.  Do not accept receipt of your car without receipt of an invoice.  This is your documented proof that there may be a definitive breach of warranty.

If you have questions regarding your Kia Sorento engine being on back order, free free to drop us a line.  We will be glad to review your situation to determine if and how we can help.

I am wondering what rights I have. My 2016 Kia Sorento with 59,??? Miles has been at Kia for over 2 months with no estimated time when the new engine will come in from Korea. So I’m looking at a month or more. My car has not been moved since I dropped it off and I worry it will mess up something just sitting in the same spot with direct sunlight. At this point I just wish they would buy my car back and I start over as I’m making my third car payment this week without my car. I also have a cleaning service and they put me in an optima which I cannot put all of my cleaning supplies I have asked several times for a vehicle comparable to mine but just keep getting the run around. What can I do?? Please help!! I have been very nice and patient but enough is enough

Our 2016 Sorento was having issues and took 10 days to get it repaired the first time. Brought the car back in and now they are saying complete engine replacement, estimated arrival of engine is 5 weeks. Like Camile, our car is at 59,000. Thank God, this happened right before the warranty expired. We do have a loner, but it’s older, less equipped and less powerful. Only had our car in the shop (for the 2nd time) for a week now. I’ll post updates.

My 2016 Kia Sorento has been in the shop since May 4th 2021. The engine has been replaced but the turbo has been on B/O. I have received at least 10 notifications from Kia as to when to expect this part and all notifications have failed. My final notification received on October 10th states: Your part is still on the most expedited status and is currently on backorder. At this time, there is no estimated time of arrival. With this notice, I have no idea how long it will take to fix this vehicle. Years???? How many other Kia owners are having this problem and what are our rights?? I have a lowner but have to pay 2.50 per day fot txs. This is now adding up. Please advise Gary Brady Watkins, Co (Denver)
