JD Power Drops Ford and Chrysler Quality Ratings

Two of the big three have seen a drop in their prized JD Power quality ratings as a result of consistent defects with their vehicles.

The Detroit News is reporting that Ford and Chrysler, both plagued by technology problems, fell several notches in the 2012 JD Power Quality Study.  Chrysler dropped nine rankings to 25 with Ford at 27.

Ford’s drop can be blamed on the consistent problems with the Sync / MyFord touch system.  We have repeatedly reported on the consistent problems with the Ford Sync system.  A new software update this Summer has not solved everyone’s problems and we have handled numerous lemon law and breach of warranty claims dealing with the troublesome component.

Ford is not alone though.  Problems with dashboard technology continued to plague many of the car companies with audio, entertainment and navigation problems increasing eight percent over last year’s study.  Many drivers also complained of problems with their hands-free communication devices.

It’s not bad news for all manufacturers.  Lexus ranked first, while Jaguar (up twenty spots) and Porsche tied for second, and Cadillac and Honda rounded out the top five.
