  1. #1 Richard Clark says:

I am experiencing the hard shift from 2 to 1 and again from 1 to 2 when taking off. The TSB reflash has been performed twice, but the truck still experiences this normally when the truck is cold.

    • #2 kevin kierstead says:

Have taken 2009 F-150 in for tranny problems 2 times Ford updated comp. program, and still shudders at some times.. When transmission is cold in morning and I start engine, put truck in reverse doesn’t grab for 2-3 seconds… then O.K. Also, when slowing down without braking downshifts so hard it will almost jerk you. Please let me know if these are complaints by others.

I have a 2010 f-150 purchased in November used with 12k miles from the dealer. Its just been in for third time for the same issues mentioned above with the transmission. I was told initially that ford was aware of the problem and was working on a solution(in November). Now Im being told that its normal for the transmission to act like this and that there is nothing they can do. Given the fact that the truck was purchased used, will the lemon law still apply?

          • #5 LemonLaw says:

Hello Charles–While the Lemon Law may not apply, the Magnuson Moss Warrant Act might come into play. Give us a call at 1-800 LEMON LAW and we will be glad to discuss the situation with you.

I have a 2009 F150 that I purchased new in Oct 2009. In Jan 2010, I took it in due to the above mentioned issues. Ford and the dealer have tried everything. I ended up taking it in five times in 2010, and now, it is back at the dealer again. They are not seeing “codes” and are having trouble duplicating the issues, but they are there. The issue is that the truck now has 45k on it. Any suggestions?

                  • #9 LemonLaw says:

I am in Texas and I just got off the phone with Ford and my dealership. I am more pissed now than before and I am considering filing a lawsuit against Ford. The Ford rep tells me it is illegal for Ford to offer any trade in assistance to get me out of this truck even if I want to buy a new Ford.

The dealer and I are going to try and work it out, but we are about 8K apart right now. I am going in in an hour from now. I am so sick and tired of this issue that I just want it behind me, but I am willing to file if needed.

                      • #11 James says:

Will I need to drag the dealership into all of this?

                        • #12 LemonLaw says:

No, the dealer would not be part of the claim. Visit our website and look at our “lemon laws in other states” to find a firm that can help you.

All, mine is a 2009 with all of the issues listed. I attempted arbitration. They ruled in the favor of Ford to try to fix it again. This time (for the second time) from a Ford Engineer. All other 3 attempts were from Ford dealership. My question to all of you is to please tell me which plant your vehicle comes from? On the right lower side of the windshield there is a sticker that tells you the plant. Thank you Tony

I have a 2011 f150, 2 months old now, I have had vibration issues and ruff shifting since the day I picked it up.currently 4000kms it has been in the dealership about 4 times. they have replaced tires and have told me there is a fix in the works that is beyond dealership level. ( what ever that means)
I went out today and when I came home I noticed transmission fluid where I park. I looked underneath and grabbed a rag, and is is all over the metal support directly under the transmission.
so now I have a car that vibrates , leaks tranny fluid and now just ruined my driveway.
                                    Im pretty pissed.
and this truck only has 4000kms on it.
I have been a loyal honda/acura customer for 15 years and Im giving ford a chance(.I needed a truck) Is this what I should expect.

we are having the same issues mentioned above with our 2010 F150 Lariat. The dealer too told us that Ford was aware of the problem. they ordered in a “kit” and said it was fixed…NOT, its going back into the shop on Tuesday Nov 1. I will keep you posted.

I had my truck in also for the shudder vibration fix.
the problem is still the same.
                                          now 5000kms on my 2011
                                          so far
                                          2 x well balanced
                                          1 wheel replaced.
                                          transmission pump replaces.
                                          vibration and shudder parts installed.

transmission still not right and vivration still the same.
                                          damn you ford.

Im liking the look of the truck but so tired of issues. I bought a new truck to not have any issues.
if this still exists next year ford is getting this truck back and I will buy a toyota.
                                            this is getting rediculous.

my truck was made april 2011 from kansas plant.
I live in Oakville, Ontario, canada
currently 5000kms owned this truck 11 weeks now and has been at dealer ship total of 3 weeks. plus numerious day drop offs.
I’m looking to hear from others in canada with same issue.

2011 F150 Lariat Limited. Shudder getting worse. Dealer at 7,500 miles. Needs reprogramming. Done and made no difference. Service rep would not admit others have same problem, but did not disagree when I said that internet full of comments regarding the problem. As the truck starts and shifts, it now thumps and has a prominant shudder that shakes the coffee cup. Said to bring back if continues.

I have 2011 F150 XL, Texas Edition with the same problem and sometimes it feels like the rear-end is fixing to just kick-out. First time i took they updated the computer and this time they are telling me there is nothing wrong, probably due to 2 different drivers and different driving habits and the computer has to adjust to each. First time it worked for awhile… always lowest gears

I’ve had the same shifting issues with my truck as well as a vibration issue. At 60km/hr I get a nasty vibration as well as taking off from a stop I’ll get a vibration from the rear end. Trucks been in to the shop 3 times and going in for its forth. The dealer has changed the clutch pac in the rear end twice and will be the third as well as added friction modifier to correct the issue. Every time it goes in I’m not able to tow for a 1000km. I need my truck for work and this is not reasonable.

Im pissed because thats a pretty penny I spent for that truck to have these kind of performance issues before 20K miles. Now, I’m even more concerned that Im not the only one. Im taking my truck to the dealership next weekend to see what they say or can do about it. I’ll keep you all posted.

I just took it to the dealer and I got a call saying that there techs checked out the truck and did notice the hard shifts but that it is normal or a characteristic of the truck. The insulting dealers keep telling me that it’s just me…now with four (4) written statements from others who have driven it, I filed a complaint with the BBB who is setting an arbitration date…big deal!! I know exactly what Ford will say and most likely is an excersise in futility. As this was to be my last new vehicle and take me into the golden years, all I have is a big pain in the _ _ _, and Ford will be the center of my notifying 12,688 engineering/architectural business associates and professionals..only satisfaction I can see. QUESTION: WHY DON’T “WE” FILE A CLASS ACTION SUIT. “If” interested…list your response and I’ll move it forward.

Been to meadowvale ford 3 times for an apparent transmission update with no fix yet. Also have an issue with the heating system. There is a loud clicking nois efrom in the dash when i turn on the heating system at start up. Originally they miss diagnosed it as a blower motor. Now they tell me it will be in the shop for a minimum of 2 weeks while they wait on the new parts. I think i got a lemon. Purchased new at yonge and steeles ford. Im in toronto. Do any lemon laws exist here??? Please help

Also went through a 2 month spell of vibration issues that resulted in four new Pirelli Tires; took three trips to get to the point of all new tires, but no charge; just inconvenience. Dealer was responsive. Vibration gone, will be interesting to see what happens at first tire rotation since installation of new tires.

We took ford at their word that it was adaptive and it would work itself out… And at 112000 km, and 1200 km from our hometown, the transmission called it quits! Ford refused to help, has refused to take ownership (we have only ever gone to the dealership for services) and we had to pay out of pocket for a new tranny to be put in before we could get home for Christmas. I suggest starting a savings so that when it finally happens, you’re ready for it, because it WILL happen.

Additionally, as I slow down to about 10 mph, it would die on occasion. I took it into the dealership to have it looked at and was told it needed an update to the computer software. It was driving ok (minus the hard shifting) until I hit 28,000 miles then the transmission sprung a big leak. I took it back to the dealership to have it serviced. I was told it was just a leak in the pan and it was fixed along with a couple minor recalls. This past Sunday while trying to traverse a steep driveway that had fresh snow and ice, the truck died on me as it had done before, but this time while in 4 high and again in 4 low. Not a very good feeling as it slides back down the hill. Monday I noticed another leak under the transfer case and now gear oil under the left rear tire. I have an appointment Friday to have it looked at again, but not feeling very confident after reading the above posts.

This all started 2 years ago when the truck had only 41000 miles on the odometer. I have had 6 transmissions installed and working on number 7. At best it is a very rought up shift and often slams into 2nd gear. My third repair attempt was last Thursday and the truck still has the problem. I have not gotten the repair order from the dealer yet as they want me to report back if the problem has been solved or not. I told them the problem has not gone away and they are reluctant to produce the third work order I need to proceed with a lemon law claim. Can I force them in some way to provide this? I am ready to get out of this truck.

It’s the slip yoke in the drive shaft. Supposedly this is a known issue with Ford but I was not able to find a TSB # for it. The service guys also told me that they are not allowed to give me that info, too. I don’t believe that but I still give kudos to the techs at David Stanley Ford for doing a great job and resolving my issue. Do a google search for Ford slip yoke problems and you find hundreds of posts. Pass it on to your technician next time you go back.

Now it feels like the tranny is going to fall out it slams into gear when passing. Also coming to a stop it shifts from high gear to 1st skipping gears in between and slams into gear. Now I am really annoyed because I see this is a common problem.

Last year, at about 18k miles, dealer told me the “valve body” and the shift soleniod blew. Replaced. Now, at 32k, the truck is doing it, again. So upset about this truck. At 5k, the thing would stall out at lights. 5th visit to the 2nd dealership accomplished a throttle body replacement/ Nothing but problems. #1 selling truck for 30+ years, huh? maybe because we ahve to keep trading them in to get one that runs half way right!

The most recent one had the same problems as the last 6 hard shifting, shuddering, and the most annoying very hard shifting when the transmission would get hot. I got tired of tying up the truck so I traded it in on a GMC last weekend.

My truck also has a vibration at around 55 mph. After about 2 hours of them having my truck they still were unable to replicate the problem. Of course. Said it is a computer update for the transmission and it will fix everything. Now they are telling me they don’t have the code and I will have to wait for the update. I also purchased the extended warranty with the truck so hopefully they will get their a$$ in gear. No reason a truck, a vehicle designed for roughness, that only has 7k miles on it should be f@cked up already. Anyone had the issue resolved? What are my options if they can’t fix it?

This Saturday, it suddenly decided to not go into reverse. Some problems I’ve seen that may cause it are the Reverse belt which is apparently also tied to the overdrive. Also the Sun shell, inside the transmission. Apparently the weld comes loose.

Then I started noticing a thump as the transmission changed gears. Now, when I’m going 40 to 55 mph, the transmission is changing gears back and forth. I tried taking it out of OverDrive. That has calmed down the problem but can still feel it slightly.

I have brought it back twice for the transmission slipping and bucking during the lag before an up shift from 4th to 3rd. Last time the dealer decided to change fluid and filter. Which makes no sense since this will not solve a mechanical problem. Does not throw out any codes and my luck it wont make the symptom during a test drive. SO Frustrating. When truck was new we noticed a distinct vibration when starting from a dead stop and it would slowly disappear at approx. 25 mph. This very noticeable while pulling our 5th wheel trailer or if we had weight in the box (Golf Cart). Our trailer does not overload the truck, it is designed for half tons. This was brought to the dealer’s attention when truck was new. It has been in several times and a shim kit was installed which was to be an upgrade. This has not corrected the problem and apparently now Ford has a spring upgrade kit to correct this. However veh. has 70,000 Km and question that spring kit is not part of the power train. I feel it is if it effects my power train. Plus this problem was identified at 2000 km.

Asked for buy back after 3rd (and every other time it has a further issue) leak issues but dealer ignored request and will not help me out of this lemon that I am stuck making a payment on while I drive crappy loaners and can not sell the truck due to the issues with it. This is a horrible experience and I am disgusted with ford for not helping a long time customer and basically saying your stuck with a p.o.s you can’t drive or sell. Someone from ford do the right thing for once because this is rediculous beyond words!!!

On Oct 5, 2011, I received the truck. The trans began shifting hard at about 4K-5K miles, but only twice. At 25,000Miles, it slammed into gear while stopped. It was so hard,, I thought someone hit me from behind. Then the entire truck began to shudder between 60-70 MPH.

Ford Engineering was contacted, after 3 weeks, they said to “replace Drive Shaft with a well known part”. The truck drove fine for 1 day and then began shifting into geard very hard, then vibration began at high speed (60 MPH).

Harsh shifts can be considered characteristic in some of our newer vehicles when the right conditions are present. Transmissions like the 6R60/6R80 used in this vehicle have a very high level of adaptability, shift timing and intensity can be adjusted quickly in response to driver inputs but it can also be learned based on repeat driver inputs. There is a reference in the Vehicle Owner Guide, under Driving and Automatic Transmission. The learned behavior is typically what leads to unwanted harsh shifts. Certain types of driving can teach the transmission to command higher pressure in anticipation of a high load or sudden load change, some of the most common driving inputs to cause this are stop and go driving, pulling a trailer, quick stops followed by heavy acceleration and rolling stops. These scenarios create a complete lack of load on coast down or braking followed by a sudden high load downshift as the vehicle accelerates, once the TCM learns this behavior it can shift hard even on a gentle accel or low load accel from a stop. This is not an indication of failure; the firm shifts are actually a self preservation measure to prevent slippage and premature wear. If you clear the vehicle KAM and adaptive shift strategies and the concern is gone for a few hundred miles, the shifts are learned and no repair is available. You can advise the customer on the types of driving that lead to this and assure them that no damage is being done to the transmission.”

Always had a clunk when taking off and stopping, never better than 15.7 mpg – ever. Was told that is normal until the truck learns your driving. Noticed a large treans leak under the front of the trans – service said it was a pan gasket and had it replaced. Trans still leaks and now will not move – slips in F and R, but eventually clunks into gear and creeps along. Trans shop is quoting $1,500 min to open and evaluate, but most likely a $4k rebuild. I will have nearly 1/4 of the truck value into trans and I am out of warranty. Just back to work after being unemployed for 1.5 years – Nice gift from Ford – another trans bill. Merry Christmas! Anyone getting support from Ford regarding their boat anchor?

I have replaced almost every part in that truck and have been dealing with ford for the last 6 months bc my transmission is shot. The truck towed once and never hauled anything major. I have already purchased a toyota tundra and have not had one problem in 6 months. Ford is telling me that it is a $6000 fix. Worst customer service ever. I have had it at numerous dealers and they all say the same thing. There was no warning that the tranny would go. Hit the gas and a grind and rolled down the hill. I have contacted ford numerous times and they have been no help at all.

Local place “fixed” my valve body issue with a rebuild kit – including the torque converter for $4600. Most parts available for the 2009 trans are now upgraded. There is an aftermarket valve body hitting the market soon, that will eliminate the crappy aluminum Ford valve body. Something about the electronic and manual shifters fighting each other and this is chewwing the housings up….

Mine is currently in the shop getting fixed under warranty thank god .. What they told me was bearings that hold the diff in place as well end cap bearings that’s what causing my hard down shift n up shift from 1st to 2nd as well causing a hmm ing noise from the rear they also recommend putting some friction additive to help lubricate the gears better due to the limited slip .. Mine has 116,000 km on it and has never had any computer updates or anything .. I hope this information can be some use n help

Each time the response was the computer etc shows nothing wrong or that is the nature of the truck, now the truck is 2 years old and I have only put a total of 11,000 miles on it, it just fraustrates me when it slams several times each time I start down the street in the AM, sometimes it will do this after it has run 30 miles or so and I shut it off for 20 minutes. Sometimes when it slams it does so with such force you think some has run into the back of the truck. Bought from Flagler Ford, Palm Coast, Fl

You can be driving and stop and when you go to take off it just revs up like you have it in neutral, also it sometimes when put in park and restarted takes off in fifth gear. The ford dealership tried to tell me that this truck is so smart that it has learned the way I drive verses the way people drive my truck!! Really yeah I thought they must think I was born yesterday… They have reset the computer that did not work then they hooked a machine to the steering colum and told me if it did it again I would have 30 seconds to push a button and it would send it to a computer to tell them what is wrong with the vehicle , that didn’t work either now they are saying it is the transmission cylinoid that shifts the gears… I just am sick of the run around I paid a lot of money for this truck and I just want what I paid for this is really made me look at ford in a whole new way this truck is not safe to really be on the roads when it stops and you are trying to go across two lanes of traffic and this vehicle hesitates it really scares me especially when I have my kids in it!!!! Ford needs to do something and they need to do it soon these trucks are just a lawsuit waiting to happen!!!!

Getting up to speed let off in 3rd slams into 4th whole truck feels like nitrous boosting through it! Then the getting up to speed amd all of a sudden you find yourself doing 70mph and if it weren’t for the new exhaust system I wouldn’t be able to tell I’m stuck in 3rd gear. Simple way to fix as vehicle is in motion: take it out of drive put into neautral let Rpms settle put back intodrive will usually throw into 5/6 gear. If you are above 45mph that is given time and deceleration to not go back to speed where third gear would be allowed to operate. If all else fails take out of drive into neutral and turn off vehicle yes while driving and restart in neutral and place back into drive.only reason i know this is due to hands on experience in the last yearand after doing 70 in 3rd gear no dealership accessible while on phone with tomball ford service department saying I don’t know what it is you will have to bring it in for us to look at and trouble shoot needless to say that was after I asked how long he thougt till I’d end up blowing a head gasket.any class actions going on yet let me know!

At the start, I noticed what seemed to be a brief vibration in the rear at about 30 mph. Now at 21,000 miles, I am experiencing all kinds of shifting irregularities along with a “bump” when I stop at a light…sort of like someone rear ended me. I took it to the dealer last week and they said it needed a computer software update. It is still doing the same thing. I have never owned a Ford truck until I purchased this one, and from the looks of it, I may never purchase another one.

I was told the dealer had a software upgrade that would take care of the issue; it did not. I personally do not think they did a thing, because nothing changed. We live in a hilly area and I find that in many situation the transmission does not down shift correctly as well which i have compalined to the dealer about as well. Again each time they have looked at it, it has not got any better.

I have got where that I have given up talking to the dealer about it because I get is excuses and am told that the it is operating normal, which is absolute bull s—. If I trade it in I would lose to much money.

I just had to take my truck in for service about this today, with 18K miles on it, because when it shifts from 1st to second it seems as if it is slipping and then catches and slams it into gear, then it is even worse going from 2nd to third. When I brake it downshifts rough and the rpms shoot way up and it feels as if someone has bumped me from behind. I am really concerned now that I am reading all of these related issues and I think mine may be one of these lemons. I hope not as I love my truck and have owned only ford trucks for years. I will keep everyone posted.

It is not shifting as hard as it did before but is still a little noticeable from 2nd to 3rd gear. When I come to a stop it still feels as if something bumps into the back of my truck? I am going to take it in for a second look and see if they can grease the slip yoke as others have suggested. My truck was manufactured on 12-2010. It is a 2011 Lariat 4×4 Supercrew Limited. This trucks msrp was 53K and it has every available option out there, but if the transmission is bad, I guess it really doesn’t matter how nice the truck is right. It has been a lot warmer down here in Texas and I am wondering if that is the reason it is shifting better as well. It was a lot colder when it had the really hard shifts.

( apparently leaking again ) i could not see any vissible leaking fluid- added 2 quarts of reccomended fluid not sure what the results will be. have appointment in 4 days. to go into the shop ( no longer under warrenty ). You should not have to make it a habbit to check tranny fluid like you would the oil. & there is no warrning light on dash to tell you tranny fluid is low ( or leaking )

I apply the brakes, and squeeze the shift lever, but it is stuck. I sometimes have to turn the truck off and back on, and that might work. Other times I keep pumping the brakes, and keep squeezing the lever. I have told the dealership, and they test drive it and claim nothing is wrong. It never does this when they have it. They dont want to be out any money to drop in a new transmission, and can’t sell it acting the way it does. I DETEST this vechicle, and will NEVER buy another Ford product.

Within one week, I noticed strange shifting patterns. Went in for a brake cable problem a week later and mentioned the shifting issue. Was told to drive it for a few thousand miles as it had to “learn” how I drove. Took it back for routine maine. at about 6000 miles and again complained about shifting issues.

I had a hard time really describing what was happening but knew it wasn’t right. They flashed the trans. I really didn’t notice any difference. Now at 9000 miles it finally failed, mechanical light came on, took it in and am waiting for a valve body part as I write this. You’ll see me here again if it doesn’t fix the problem.

Have had this back to two different dealers and have delt all but one with the purchasing dealer. The original problem was the vibration on upshifting or torque converter lock-up to be even more specific.. For those of us that don’t understand the complexity of the inner working, let me give you the basics. Automatic transmissions shift through an arangement of gears that are listed as “speeds”. A oil filled fluid device called a touque converter couples the engine turning energy to the transmission to aid in the smothness of operation as well as the ablity to add more twisting force to the input shafts of the transmission at certain times and conditions. With this twisting or rather torque conversion process develops wasted motion and heat. In other words the energy put into the torque converter is reduce in comparison the energy put out of the device. So to improve on fuel figures and lessen losses, 99% of all modern transmissions have this Torque Converter designed to do these certain things. Some have a what they call Varible inner Turbine blades that change pitch. Much like a window fan blade is constructed these will scoop more or less fluid depending on speed load and other factors. Also there is a clutch installed inside this device that will apply and lock the input shaft to the output shaft.

This continues until the load decreases or the frictional forces increase. Thus a ( shudder) felt after city trafic high way back ups etc. The specific timing of the vibrations were as follows: after 1st shift aprox 3 seconds ( shudder) second shift ( shudder)

The reflash eliminated the lock-up of the converter on 12345 and only allow a 6th gear lock-up same conditions occur on 5 to 6 lock-up. the last 2 Visits were un fruitful and only exasperated me furthur.

Dealers say that I was the only one with major issue. Asked to have a oil cooler installed to help lower the fluid temp no resolve. Will add my own.. just a theory should help.

A month ago I was pulling out into traffic and there was nothing, I floored it barley made it out into traffic so I could pull over. I had also noticed hard shifts, like it couldn’t make up it’s mind on what gear it should be in. I brought it back and they said they had to reboot the system and that it would take a couple of weeks to learn my habits again. Bang same thing happend again pulling out into traffic i almost got T-boned , also trying to get off the beach before the tide came in, it did the same thing. I find I have to put it in 1st or shut it off and restart it.

It feels like the rear tire is slipping. It only happens the first and maybe the second time I start from a stop, as though the tranny warms up enough that it doesn’t shudder the rest of the trip. Once it is parked for an extended period, it will shudder again as I start out. The dealer says he felt it, but has no idea what is causing it. He suggested I just ignore it unless it gets worse….and hope that if it does it happens before the 60,000 mile powertrain warranty expires.

They said nothing wrong. Brought in again 11/2011 for a whining sound. They said nothing wrong. Brought it in two weeks ago at 61k miles, which happens to be 10K miles over 50,000 manufacturers power train warranty and 5 months, 22days over warranty, for the same whining sound and they say Push Pin bad, needs a new transmission. Bought a Ford remanufactored for $3,050 and had dealership install. First day, reverse light not working, fixed. Two days later, reverse lights not working again then trans fault indicator came on with O/D off light on. I never turned O/D off. They said needs a new Torque Converter. I want a new rebuilt and they said no. HELP

Later, it felt like a cement block was stacked in the bed and fell. My dealer said that was a normal gear shift. I final got results at 15,000 miiles when they said I needed to have my computer reset. The problem continues, and seems to be getting worse. Now I was told I need to have at least 500 miles after resetting as to have the transmission adapt to my style of stopping and starting. I have had Dodge trucks for 40 years and never had that issue. I have since talked to 4 other friends that are having similar problems with there F150 My Ecoboost does a tremendous job towing and otherwise no issues.

It was in the dealer most of the time until I took a loss and sold it. I then tempted fait again and bought a 2011 Ecoboost. I am experiencing the above listed trans problems as well as the shuddering rear differential on slow moving turns. Trans also seems to shudder and slip when accelerating in higher gears. So crappy fuel economy and another run around. Will probably trade truck on a gmc or a new ram., tired of fighting with Ford.

They’ve never seen anything like this in the shop!” – “you are going to have to have a totally new transmission” those were the words this morning of the Ford mechanic shop that holds our 2011 Ford F150 Lariat 4×2 super Crew with Ecoboost 3.5L V6 that has only 59,940 miles on it. The truck has never towed; it has been maintained and driven with care. No real problems before. We had taken a trip driving from Austin to Phoenix and just at our destination; we coasted basically as the transmission completely went out. Thank the Lord it didn’t go out as we came down the steep grades near Flagstaff or I probably wouldn’t be here writing. I’m told it will take a week to get my truck back to me. Not so happy with the Ford choice of a retirement traveling vehicle now.

I bought it brand new. At around the 4000 mile mark I started to notice a violent jerk between first and second gears. It literally scares passengers in my truck. This typically occurs during stop and go traffic. It’s used to be 3 or 4 times a day, but has now reached about 8 or 9 times a day. I have taken it to ford 4 times as I wanted to get it taken care of while under warranty. They reprogrammed each time and actually insulted me by saying the jolt I’m feeling was normal. So, now I am near the 90K mile mark, no warranty, and the problems are getting worse. Is there anything I can do about this? It’s just not right, makes me sick. I hate ford.

Slowing down to a stop you can feel what seems like a strong Bump pushing from the rear. Slowing to a stop then accelerate before you actually stop, HARD down shift with a strong bump. Been to the shop three times. Updated computer replaced and repacked the yoke. I KNOW THIS IS NOT A NORMAL CHARACTORISTIC of Ford like I have been told.

The truck thuds into gear almost everytime I shift it. Have told ford about it several times, was told I was an aggressive driver. Was told that its because I have a steep driveway. I told them it does this when it is flat on the ground. Now I have transmission problems, at about 50+mph, the truck acts like it is trying to shift, it thuds, shakes the truck, scares the hell out of you, especially when you are on the freeway going 50+ mph. I plan on taking it back to for for this. I also have problems with the rear end. Whenever it gets wet out or sandy or just bumpy going around corners, truck bounces around corners, will not stay on the ground, when wet, it slid completely out from the back and turned me sideways on the road. This is with just a small amound of water on the road. Sand, it slides sidways. I asked about this at a tire shop. Was told the traction control needed to be reset from the factory. Asked ford about it, “they could not duplicate the problem, was told they checked the computer and could see no problem with the traction control. My truck has 25895 miles on it. Just replaced all 4 tires and had all 4 rotars ground down because the brake pedal would vibrate under my foot WHEN BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY. The tire shop told me my tires looked like I had been driving on rocks, the truck bounces all over the road and I have a hell of a time keeping it on the road. My sunroof leaks, the front power seat has had to be worked on twice, back slider window had to be worked on. I just wake up in the morning and wonder, WHAT THE HELL ELSE IS GOING TO BE WRONG WITH MY TRUCK. I live in southern california, they are expecting a heavy el nino this year, that means rain. Right now I am terrified that if the roads get wet, that truck is going to slam into someoine else or worse. I have had this truck into the shop several times, most of the time they do nothing. They kept it for 2 days and fixed NOTHING. Wish me luck…

Sounds like Ford hasn’t fix the problem. My insurance card from 2nd to 3rd and from 3rd to 4th. I haven’t noticed it on the downshift but I feel I thud after I make a complete stop. It’s at the dealership right now second time in for the same problem hasn’t been fixed yet. Pretty sure I’m going to get the runaround so I’ll probably be contacting the factory next. Please let me know if there’s a fix for this.

The truck has a very hard downshift, especially when going into overdrive or when first accelerating. Truck also shudders when going slowly like first accelerating or driving slowly through my neighborhood. I had the transmission rebuilt in Jul 2015 (shop had my truck for 3 weeks) and just dropped it off again this week for the same issues. The truck is only 5 years old, what is going on that it’s having so many shifting problems and the dealership can’t seem to correct it. Sadly, I owe to much on the stupid thing to get rid of it too.

Is there any fix this issue? Or does ford Canada know about this/going to fix it

The truck has less then 9000 miles on it. It’s my seem minor now I’m just hoping to find an alternative soon. Coming to a stop the transmission hiccups from a higher gear into first. Also the transmission will sometimes slam into 5th gear from 4th gear or vice versa.

The truck will downshift to 1st gear at highway speeds causing the rear tires to begin sliding and the engine to tach out over 7000 – 8000 rpm nearly losing control of the vehicle. The ford dealer indicated that the computer indicated that there was nothing wrong and to continue driving it. I did so and it did it again. This time it was blamed on a loose ground wire. It seems ok until the next day when it acted like it was going to downshift and the wrench light came on, the speedometer dropped to zero, the dash went blank, and the drivers air bag light illuminated. Ford kept the vehicle for a week and during that time they had a computer on it and they said it was fine but wanted me to drive it with the computer hooked up and instructed me what to do if it caused the issue again. The next morning going to work it did the same thing again and I managed to capture it on the computer and with a picture.

It is now very hesitant about going into gear at all. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem.

Now I have 200,000 miles on my truck and I have to replace the transmission again. Does Ford make this transmission to only last for 100,000 miles. Truck is serviced per the recommended intervals within the Ford manual.

The leak caused sever corrosion to the plug and wires and rendered the vehicle undrive-able. All the wires going into the plug were damaged and they go to the computer and other components in the truck. After searching, we found there is a service bulletin for this issue, basically every 6R80 Transmission out there will have or has had this issue, even those not in the F150 ( The Sport Trac V-8 as 1 example ).

After doing a Nation Wide search and also searching Ford Houses in Canada, there were none to be found. We had to purchase a used Trans, with a cut off plug assy still installed in order to get the part. Even checking the Insurance data bases and wrecking yards across the country no one had any, the harnesses are cut off and thrown into a recycle pile upon the vehicles arrival while it is being dismantled. We were without our vehicle for 2 1/2 months, Ford offered to give us preferred pricing on a NEW vehicle, ( the current on was almost paid off ). Yeah, right…..

My question when being told it is normal, would be how come the vehicle was even kept to be looked at and why did the mechanic feel it necessary to look deeper into a problem, if there wasnt one?Obviously, the mechanic sensed an issue when it was test driven, how many other vehicles run like that? Was there a bill, if the vehicle truly was in good working order, there shouldnt be….. And if “Ford is working on a solution” then they obviously saw a problem…..or, who is lying here? Call these S.O B.’s out!!!

We run a service business and count on our Service Trucks to run every time, all the time. Ford quality has fallen WAY short of the bar they set years ago. Shame on them…… I sure am sorry for the problems all these folks have had, I feel and know their frustration.

I specialize in factory f-ups. Did you know that if you buy an Ford, Chevy, BMW, or Mercedes of this year or later you still get this co-apt transmission with the same issues! One thing I can promise is that I’m on it and I’ll find a solution!

First my truck has been in the shop 3 times for coolant leaks. The first two times they claimed they fixed it and then my transmission is blown and I notice it’s low again so they looked at both. Needed a new transmission and the coolant was leaking again by the turbo. Total piece of crap will never buy a ford again

It seems ok until the next day when it acted like it was going to downshift and the wrench light came on, the speedometer dropped to zero, the dash went blank, and the drivers air bag light illuminated. The truck also remains in 5tgh gear except when stopped when it drops to 3rd gear then promptly returns to 5th gear only. It is now very hesitant about going into gear at all. This is crazy!

It lost all the oil at some point. Causing it to not start at all. I took it back. Demanded refund. We are in court. I’m not paying. Does this law apply? 6500$.

Decided to take my vehicle back because they said my truck’s performance was not affected by the engine noise and the transmission did not have anything wrong.

Sent the service department the Ford TSB for the engine noises because again they didn’t know what to do. They fixed the engine noises. But I also still had transmission issues. Again, they could not replicate nor could they find anything on the computer. My truck stayed in service for 41 days. After being without my truck for that long, decided to take it back since it was obvious they were not going to fix anything.

It’s a hard shift when I’m going down the road, slow or fast, and have to slow down. Doesn’t do it everyday but when it does, it’s annoying. When it happens, it sounds like the truck is dropping something.
