Every new car buyer can usually remember the exact place and time they got their first taste of body damage. Minor chips happen as part of the driving experience but for many 2019 Mazda CX-5 owners, apparent flaws in the manufacturer’s paint job have led to significant chipping. The 1 800 LEMON LAW hotline is filled with complaints from drivers complaining of Mazda CX-5 Soul Red Crystal problems related to paint chipping. One Reddit user hopefully asks if the issue has been resolved in 2019 models (apparently 2018 models were also bad), only to be informed that it’s still happening regardless of color.
Sadly for Mazda owners, this does not appear to be a new issue. Over at Mazdaforum.com, one user writes “Is anyone else experiencing an obscene amount of chipping on their 2018+ soul red crystal paint? My 18 Mazda 6 has a ton of paint chipping from road debris on the front hood, side fenders, even towards rear fenders. I’ve never experienced this bad of chipping issues with any of my 4 previous Mazda’s, this is the worst I’ve seen thus far.
With any vehicle I’ve owned frankly. I took it to the dealer and even they said it’s pretty bad. Service manager mentioned that because of this 7 stage paint, it seems that this paint is more brittle than previous soul crystal red formulas in the past. He said I’m the second person to bring in their vehicle because of this.”
If you are experiencing frequent paint chipping you feel is beyond normal wear and tear, or other Mazda CX-5 Soul Red Crystal problems, take your Mazda to an authorized dealer for service.
And if you find that after repetitive visits to address brittle paint chipping issues, the matter is still not resolved, you may have a claim under State Lemon Laws and/or Federal Warranty Statutes. If you have been back to a Mazda dealership multiple times under warranty for the same problem or your vehicle has been out of service for an extended period of time, you have the right to seek resolution; which could mean monetary compensation, a full refund, or a new vehicle. And best of all, under these laws, the representation is completely cost-free.
