RIP Pittsburgh Consumer Reporter & TV Legend Yvonne Zanos

January 08, 2010 By: LemonLaw Category: charity, Pittsburgh No Comments →

One of the roles we treasure most at Kimmel and Silverman is serving as automotive consumer advocates, working with reporters and producers throughout the Nation to educate consumers on their lemon law and car buying rights.  Our efforts and our clients have been featured in hundreds of consumer stories, each designed to empower consumers to fight for their rights.

One of our favorite consumer reporters, beloved Pittsburgh reporter Yvonne Zanos, succumbed to ovarian cancer today, two days following her sixtieth birthday.  Over the years, we shared so many wonderful times with Yvonne; checking out the hot new rides at the Pittsburgh Auto Show, scouring through mall parking lots looking for cars that appear on NHTSA’s annual car complaint index, and just setting up cameras in the middle of car dealerships (and no one ever turned her away.)  Her smile was contagious, her anecdotes hilarious, and her love for the people of Pittsburgh unwavering.

Together, we worked to solve many consumer dilemmas, and the stories we collaborated on always generated a large amount of response.  She had her pulse on her viewer and she always knew the best way to tell the story.  She was at the forefront when Pennsylvania expanded the Lemon Law, and again with the first-ever computer lemon law bill.  If you called her with useful, up-to-the minute information, you could be assured she’d share it with her viewers at 5:00.

Our last correspondence with Yvonne was right before Thanksgiving, and she was front and center in the newsroom despite receiving treatments.  As she always did with her reporting, Yvonne fought a good fight, with an incredible combination of wit, grace and tenacity.

Our love and condolences go out to her family in Bethel Park, PA, her family in the Pittsburgh broadcasting community, and her many viewers, fans and friends throughout Western Pennsylvania.

To Yvonne’s fans, you can show your love by contributing to a cause close to her heart, the KDKA TV Turkey Fund.  More information about Yvonne and the fund can be found by clicking here.

Pennsylvania Lemon Law Explained

September 14, 2009 By: LemonLaw Category: PA Lemon Law, Pennsylvania Lemon Law, philadelphia, Pittsburgh No Comments →

Happy third anniversary lemon law blog buddies!  We can’t believe it’s been three years since we started our on-line community and we have appreciated the thousands of comments, blog topic ideas, suggestions and good wishes.  Here’s to the next year, where we will aim to provide even more comprehensive news and information on your lemon law and breach of warranty rights.

We decided that in our next series of blog entries, we will take a look at the lemon laws in each of the states we work in.  We start today with the Pennsylvania Lemon Law.  Pennsylvania is very near and dear to Kimmel and Silverman for two reasons. First, we started our practice in the State and have grown to become PA’s oldest and largest lemon law firm, handling over 30,000 claims statewide since our inception.  Second, Kimmel and Silverman worked with the Pennsylvania House of Representatives Consumer Affairs Committee in 2002 to actually add amendments to strengthen the PA Lemon Law, most notably to include leased vehicles.  This was a tremendous success for our Firm and the amendment has single handedly aided thousands since its inclusion.

The Pennsylvania Lemon Law applies to new cars purchased or leased in Pennsylvania and registered in PA, OR purchased in another state but registered in PA by the first owner immediately after purchase.  In order to qualify for remedy under the Pennsylvania Lemon Law, your vehicle must be used for personal use and must suffer its first non conformity (that’s a defect which affects the use, value or safety of the car) within the first 12 months or 12,000 miles, whichever comes first.  The problem must occur at least two more times under the Manufacturers warranty period OR the vehicle must be in the shop 30 days in the 12/12 period.  The 30 days do not have to be consecutive, nor do they have to be for the same problem.

Now, please note that although commercial vehicles, used cars, and motorcycles are NOT covered under the PA Lemon Law, there are other Laws we which may apply so call us at 1-800 LEMON LAW (1-800-536-6652) to find out about your rights and whether we can offer assistance. Remember, you never know unless you ask.

Next time…we will take a look at the Great Garden State…The New Jersey Lemon Law!

1-800 LEMON LAW on ABC News in Pittsburgh

May 01, 2009 By: LemonLaw Category: Car Lemon Law, PA Lemon Law, Pittsburgh, TV interview No Comments →

Christina Gill Roseman, Managing Attorney of Kimmel and Silverman’s Western Pennsylvania Office, was recently featured on WTAE TV Action News in Pittsburgh discussing the PA Lemon Law.  In addition, the story featured one of our clients who received a complete buyback after filing a claim against General Motors for her lemon Chevrolet Trailblazer.  Did you know that PennDOT says that the Chevrolet Trailblazer is the number one lemon car in Pennsylvania?  With the number of Trailblazer cases we take throughout the Northeast, we can certainly believe it.

Following the news story, Christina was invited to participate in a lemon law web chat on the station’s website, where she offered a heaping dose of helpful advise to distressed drivers throughout Pittsburgh.  You can read the transcript by clicking here.
