I am sure you have seen the headlines by now; Toyota is facing another nightmare as they announce that they will temporarily suspend the sales of the Lexus GX460 following a safety warning in Consumer Reports magazine.

Consumer Reports has said that the vehicle has an unusually high risk of rollovers during turns,  Toyota says they are determined to identity and fix the issue.   According to the magazine, when pushed to the limits on a test track, the rear of the vehicle slid out until it was almost sideways before the electronic stability control was able to take over. The vehicle, which has only been on the market for three months, costs over $50,000.

Looking for the safest car? Don’t look at domestics

SAFE CARS
No domestics on U.S. insurance industry’s list of safest
vehicles

DETROIT (AP) – The U-S insurance industry has released its list of the 13 safest cars — and none of them are from the U-S.

An industry official says that’s mostly because American automakers aren’t making cars with electronic stability control, which keeps vehicles stable in emergencies. And the technology is a new requirement in ranking vehicles for safety.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has proposed requiring electronic stability control in all new cars by 2012. But insurance industry officials say that’s not soon enough.

Studies are said to show that up ten-thousand crashes could be prevented each year if every vehicle had the technology.

The cars that did make the list are all by foreign manufacturers, and ranked highest in protecting people in front, rear and side crash tests.

The list of 2007 model year winners being released includes the Audi A-6 in the large car category; the Audi A-4, Saab 9-3 and Subaru Legacy (with optional stability control) for midsize cars; the Hyundai Entourage and Kia Sedona minivans; the Mercedes M-class and Volvo XC90 luxury sport utility vehicles; the Acura RDX, Honda Pilot and Subaru B9 Tribeca midsize SUVs; and the Honda CR-V and Subaru Forester small SUVs.

ONE FINAL THOUGHT–The highways are always busy this time of year. Please stay alert and make sure your car is well maintained so you don’t experience any delays on your way to Grandma’s. Enjoy a happy, healthy holiday!
